My favourite thing about social media is that it allows me to find inspiration for all sorts of things: fashion, books to put on my to-read list, recipes and new places to explore. Whenever I need inspiration on how to style a certain piece of clothing, or when I want to know what the latest trends are, I have a list of bloggers, Instabloggers, and Youtubers to turn to. Collecting different outfit pictures in my list of saved items on Instagram, or pinning them to one of my Pinterest boards has become a daily activity, and has helped me to get to know and develop my own style. During my high school years, I have experimented with different kinds of styles, as most people do. I remember being fourteen and secretly wanting to look like Avril Lavigne (did you know that I was a big fan of Evanescence, too?), and two years later I would go to school wearing the most preppy outfits. Think knee socks, loafers, plaid skirts and a lot of navy coloured items. Ah, those good old times!
Generally I like to follow trends and I love how that makes me experiment with different styles. However, there are some items that have been in my closet for several years that I keep wearing and never seem to get bored of. I still own a collection of plaid skirts, but for the most part you’ll see me wearing neutral colours. I like to combine the chic, elegant, and minimalistic “à la francaise” style that is trending at the moment with more edgy items like (faux) leather skirts, oversized jackets and ankle boots with a chunky heel, in order to make that parisian chic style we all love so much just a bit more interesting.
I love reading other people’s blog and Instagram account recommendations, so I thought it was about time that I share my favourites with you! As you’ll notice, this list mostly consists of people who share the same or a similar style as me. I don’t like to copy other people’s outfits, but I do like to get inspired by different bloggers and their #outfitoftheday‘s to create something new. However, I also find inspiration in bloggers that have a totally different style than my own. Getting to know different styles, and seeing how certain bloggers create daring outfits by making unusual and unseen combinations is a source of inspiration and guidance as well – it motivates me to get out of my comfort zone now and then. For this list, I tried to incorporate some lesser known bloggers and influencers too, so that you can discover new accounts, and perhaps find some inspiration yourself.
Sofia Tsakiridou (@matiamubysofia)
Sofia is a Hamburg based model and Instagrammer. I mainly follow her because of the healthy recipes that she shares, and I often check her feed if I need inspiration when cooking. However, she is a real fashionista as well. If you ask me, Sofia is the queen of accessorising. Her outfits always look perfectly put together because of the elegant necklaces or the playful scrunchies and headbands she wears with them, whether she’s wearing a going-out dress or a bikini. I appreciate and admire her honesty, spontaneity, and cheerfulness on her Instagram stories, in which she offers her followers a peek into her daily life as a model and fervent traveller. For the past couple of months, she has been working on her own cook book “Eat Love Happiness”, which I’m excited to read!
My favourite youtuber! I discovered Ashley’s Youtube and Instagram account only a few months ago, but I fell in love immediately. Her style doesn’t entirely correspond to my own, but I find it inspiring how she manages to create a lot of different outfits with just a few items of clothing by wearing them in an unusual way. For example, a silk slip dress on top of a romantic “milk maid top” proves to create a great look. She is known for her “thrift flip” videos in which she goes thrift shopping and redesigns the clothes she found to create awesome outfits. It’s because of her that I have given thrift shopping a chance, and I’ve been loving it so far!
If there’s anyone out there on the gram that I feel matches my style completely, it’s Jodie. There is literally not any outfit this Rennaise has shared that I did not like, and I draw a lot of inspiration from her Instagram stories, in which she often shares her favourite items from both high-street and high-end brands. I have followed her since the very beginning, and have seen her grow and work together with some very cool brands.
Another French blogger – the françaises definitely know how to do fashion! I adore Julie ‘s style. She creates the cutest outfits by combining pastels and dreamy colours. I like how she relies on natural lighting and how she makes use of colour schemes to create a harmonious Instagram feed. A lot of her pictures are taken in her hometown Bordeaux, so watching her pictures and outfit videos makes me want to book a train ticket to the South of France and stroll through the streets of its picturesque little villages. Like Ashley, Julie’s outfit pictures motivate me to incorporate more colours in my wardrobe and to experiment with different fits than those I would usually go for.
Diana Leeflang (@disfordazzle)
I have been following Diana for quite a long time, for various reasons. She is Dutch, but has lived in Manchester for some time after she moved there to live with her English boyfriend. Right now, she and Alex are living in Amsterdam together, and I love watching her vlogs in which she gives her followers a peek into her daily life. The reason why I started following her youtube channel, however, was because of her fashion themed videos. As I already wrote, I don’t only find inspiration in bloggers that share the same style as me, but I also find it inspiring to see how bloggers with a totally different style than my own combine certain pieces. Diana is one of them – her outfits are definitely more daring than my own. Lately, she has been really into sustainable fashion and thrift shopping and shares her ideas on this topic with her followers.
Another Dutchie whose account I have only discovered recently, but I’ve been loving her photos and Instagram stories ever since. Zoe is a major inspiration to me when it comes to vintage shopping. She often shares her purchases from thrift shops with her followers on Instagram, as well as the outfits she created with them. As someone who (too) often wears all-black outfits, I love seeing how she manages to put together chique and stylish looks with pastel coloured blazers by combining them with chunky golden necklaces and adorable vintage accessories. I love her spontaneity, so I am looking forward to see more of the videos she has started to upload on IGTV lately.
Of all the bloggers and youtubers that I’m discussing here, Mimi is perhaps the most on trend. On her youtube channel ‘Mimiarr’, she shifts between fashion hauls and videos in which she gives an overview of what’s trending at the moment and what will be the coming season. If you like a certain trend (for instance the neon trend), but you don’t really know how to pull it off or combine it, have a look at her channel! What I like about Mimi’s style is that she experiments with different trends but always seems to find that perfect balance between romantic and edgy in her outfits.
I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post, and that you perhaps found some inspiration on new Instagram or youtube accounts to follow yourself!
