Billy Bonka – new vegan hotspot in Ghent

July 7, 2019

It’s Sunday, which means I’m sharing another hotspot with you! When I was looking for a cafe in Ghent to work on my thesis, I decided to try something new instead of going to my usual work place “Le Pain Quotidien”. I had read some good things about Billy Bonka, an all-vegan bar that recently opened its doors in Ghent’s historical city centre, so I wanted to give this place a try. I spent my whole afternoon here, and had my first productive day this month. The place has a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, friendly owners and some nice music playing in the background. Since they opened very recently – June 15 – they’re still working on their menu, but it looks very promising already.

While I was working on my thesis, responding to some emails, and making to-do lists for the next week, I enjoyed an iced latte and a brownie – both for a very reasonable price. I’m especially a fan of their iced latte, which they make with almond milk. Apart from coffee and tea, they also serve breakfast and some dishes that you can order all day: lasagna, nacho’s, quesadillas… all plant-based! You’ll also find some cocktails and biological wines on the menu. I will definitely return here to get some work done, have a drink with friends or try their vegan lasagna.

You can find Billy Bonka in Onderstraat 14, Ghent

I'm a copywriter & content creator with a passion for travelling, sustainable fashion & literature. I turned my dream into reality by moving from Ghent to London, where you can find me browsing vintage markets, sipping coffee in my favourite coffee shops early in the morning or spending too much money on vegan food. As an endless wanderer, what truly sets my soul on fire is travelling and the excitement of discovering new places and getting lost in unknown cities. I started this platform to share my travel stories with you, but I'd also love to take you along on my journey into a more sustainable lifestyle, share my appreciation for vintage shopping and thrifting, and motivate you to find joy in the little things.
